Regardless of age, race, gender, etc. there is always something to be done when volunteering in Colorado Springs. Being a child cannot prevent you from helping, nor can being a senior. Every little bit helps, and everyone in the community can prosper from it. At Springs Rescue Mission we welcome any and all volunteers. Just this past weekend we hosted an Easter event. We had volunteers ranging from 6 years old to seniors and all were greatly appreciated!
The main goal of many rescue missions is to assist as many people as possible. Without the help of volunteers, the amount of people in need would greatly exceed the amount of assistance available. By helping out whenever possible, more members of the community can be served, which benefits everyone. There are many people who take what they have learned through their volunteer work, and apply it into their everyday lives. It can be incredibly rewarding to work with the less fortunate. Our volunteers build a sense of pride in what they do, which transfers to every area of their life, including day to day routines.Volunteering in Colorado Springs helps to build a stronger community. It does not have to be difficult to give up a few hours, or even help out another person. Having passion and the belief in what you are doing, is often enough fuel to get going. Once going, the results can be extraordinary for both the volunteer and the community. To find out how you or your organization can get involved in volunteering in Colorado Springs, visit our website at www.mySRM.org or call us at 719-632-1822.Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Benefits of Volunteering at Springs Rescue Mission
Below is an excerpt from an article about the benefits of being a volunteer. You will find there are many benefits when you volunteer Colorado Springs. It starts as being a good deed or service to the organization and/or individual you are helping, but in the end you benefit just as much! At Springs Rescue Mission we want you to fulfill your passions and share your talents through being a volunteer. If you would like to get more out of life, give back to those in need.
"Fundamentally, volunteering is about giving your time, energy and skills freely. Unlike many things in life there is choice involved in volunteering. As a volunteer you have made a decision to help on your own accord, free from pressure to act from others. Volunteers predominantly express a sense of achievement and motivation, and this is ultimately generated from your desire and enthusiasm to help. Sometimes volunteers are regarded as do-gooders and those that hold that view also assume that one person can never make a difference. It may be true that no one person can solve all the world’s problems, but what you can do is make that little corner of the world where you live just that little bit better."

The “Springs Food Fight” continues. Springs Rescue Mission (SRM) is in the middle of its Easter campaign to “Turn Hunger Into Hope” by feeding thousands of hungry and homeless people this holiday season!
SRM still needs a lot of help accumulating food and is asking the community to join the effort. During the next three weeks, preparations will be underway to supply hundreds of families with holiday food boxes and facilitate a large Easter meal for the poorest in Colorado Springs.
“This time of year we serve some of the most broken people in our city. Coming together as a community in response to a great need will bring tremendous hope to our struggling neighbors. It’s not just about the donation of the food we need; it’s about showing we care for each other, and offering other solutions that help in a greater way” says Joe Vazquez, CEO of Springs Rescue Mission. Make a difference and choose to make donations Colorado Springs this Easter season.
SRM is asking for a community effort in donating as many of the items needed in the next 14 days and join in the effort of providing for struggling families with children and individuals who are relying on the Mission’s help this year.
“By providing a meal we get people in the door and out of the cold. But it’s also through that one meal we can open the door to other opportunities to give them life essential assistance they desperately need,” continues Mr. Vazquez.
