Becoming A Volunteer In Colorado Springs Helps The Community

At Springs Rescue Mission we believe helping someone that is in need can be one of the greatest satisfactions in life. Being a volunteer in Colorado Springs, can help benefit everyone in the community. Regardless of the passion that drives a person, there is something for everyone.

Volunteer work has no age limits. A person can begin as soon as they are able to walk, or can help out until their final moment on Earth. Because a charity is always looking for people, the more volunteers they have on staff, the larger the community involvement. This can greatly help with prosperity in a community as well as help the individual grow by learning from those they have helped.

The more people wanting to help a charity, the larger database of people it can help. With more hands, more gets done in a community. The more a company does with the larger help, the more people that benefit as a result. This can help the community serve a greater amount of people, something everyone in the community can appreciate.

Having a sense of pride as a volunteer will not only help the organization, but help the person as well. Members will quickly form bonds with one another as they recognize their similar interests. These interests not only help form long lasting friendships, but also a separate family all together.

There are quite a few people that transfer what they have learned by volunteering into their own personal lives. It can be a great accomplishment to be able to see compassion for every part of life, instead of only the company's involvement.  When someone experiences personal growth it affects every aspect of their life, including work.

It is not hard for anyone to give up their time; they just have to want to do it. By wanting to help others which are struggling, or simply by wanting to help better them self as a whole, it can be done easily if the passion is there. By deciding to be a volunteer in Colorado Springs, the community can not only grow and see a large difference within the population, but also within the volunteer as well.

If you or someone you know is interested in engaging your church, business, or small group with Springs Rescue Mission we would love to come to YOU and share exciting opportunities to get involved through volunteering, giving and advocating for the less fortunate. To arrange a presentation, please contact Kristin at 719-314-2353 or kristino@mysrm.org.

SRM Spotlight ~ New Life Program Is Changing Lives

Ernesto

Springs Rescue Mission's New Life Program has changed the lives of many men in need of an addiction recovery program in Colorado Springs.  The story below proves the power of Jesus Christ and His work through this amazing program.

Ernesto came to the Mission from the world of heavy drug use and a culture created by those who lived for only one thing – the current drugs of choice – whether it was for money or personal use. Because of experiencing several family tragedies related to drugs and money, Ernesto stepped into the drug world bent on retaliation, but was soon lured by the sultry addictive lifestyle. His attitude towards revenge turned into a tasteful opportunity to live for himself.

As a result, Ernesto’s life became one deeply integrated into the Mexican drug world, with experiences that could fill volume after volume of books in an encyclopedia format. A complete paradox was cultivated from an early life lived in the Faith as it met head on with a completely Evil infiltrated existence.

“When I came to the Mission my mind was filled with so many negative experiences that I never thought I could get clean again. Inside I felt so dirty and unraveled. But God did a miracle. Somehow He took everything and every bad experience and turned into a life worth living.

“My life in drugs and crime are over. I know that now. God has opened himself to me in a way and showed me that my life is still worth something and it has a purpose for Jesus.

“My life and experiences can be used to minister to people still caught in the same lifestyle I was saved from. God can use me to show people the way out, to show them the light of Jesus, and that they too can be saved from destruction.

I know God put a call on my life. This Call is to reach people only I can reach because I have been where they are at now. I am a tool in God’s hand that has a specific purpose now.”

Ernesto has a new vision for his life. In the immediate he wants to rejoin with his family, as a new man of course. He wants to allow Jesus ample time to continue the nurturing process of building up his spirit in the Faith, as well as the rebuilding of relationships with his family.

As His life continues to progress on a positive path, Ernesto knows God is getting him ready to enter into a lifetime ministry of making a difference in other’s lives.

At the moment, Ernesto is still in the New Life Program at Springs Rescue Mission where he is putting his love for cooking through the paces of the Mission’s Culinary Arts program.

“I love food and learning how to cook on a professional level. I think it will provide a good career opportunity for me to pursue while I walk the path of bringing others to know Jesus Christ.

“I thank God for bringing me into the Mission experience and a different culture that changed the old person I was into someone new - to live a life full of purpose.”

Ernesto, you are an inspiration to any person needing and wanting to change his/her life.  We admire your hard work and dedication to be the person your were meant to be.

Donate In Colorado Springs This Easter

Would you like to make a difference this Easter season and donate in Colorado Springs?  Well, you can!  Read this message from Springs Rescue Mission's CEO to find out more.

A Message from Rev. Joe Vazquez, CEO of Springs Rescue Mission

Jeremiah 17:7-8 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit.”

We want those who come to us in need to put their trust and hope in the Lord. His Word is necessary for their life and growth.

But before they can “yield fruit,” they need to be fed, clothed and sheltered. That’s why we’re dedicating each day between now and Easter to turning hunger into hope.

With your help, we will continue to provide both the physical and spiritual nourishment that reaches deep into people’s hearts and souls so their “roots” can grow strong and deep.

Springs Rescue Mission ~ "Turn Hunger Into Hope" Volunteer Opportunities

Hff_spotlight_link3

The increasing numbers of people who are suffering from hunger and homelessness have prompted Springs Rescue Mission to launch a special project through its "Springs Food Fight" campaign this Easter season to "Turn Hunger Into Hope."

According to CEO Rev. Joe Vazquez, "We know that thousands of men, women and children in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region go to bed hungry each night."

When Springs Rescue Mission feeds a hungry individual or family they extend an invitation through other resources to aid those who are struggling and "Turn Hunger into Hope." According to Rev. Vazquez, "a meal is often the first contact hungry or homeless people have with the Mission and serves to introduce them to other life-changing services."

Alvin is one of those people. After a lifetime of drug abuse, Alvin ended up homeless. He was living outdoors in Colorado Springs in the winter! Alvin knew that he had to make a change. We accepted him with open arms and he joined our New Life addiction recovery program. Here, he is learning essential life skills and pursuing the path to self-sufficiency.

"So many of our neighbors have lost hope," said Vazquez. "They've lost jobs, lost homes, lost control of their lives to drugs or alcohol. They're hungry – not only for hot meals – but for the hope that can nourish their hearts and souls and help them to begin new lives."

During this Easter season, the "Springs Food Fight" will begin to "Turn Hunger into Hope" to provide thousands of meals to our neighbors in need.  Volunteer in Colorado Springs and help us provide meals to our neighbors.

Springs Rescue Mission is a non-denominational, Christian, and Direct Service organization, which has been providing critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor and needy of the Pikes Peak region since 1996. In 2011, they expect to provide more than 299,533 meals and over 12,200 nights of shelter for many in recovery. All services provided FREE OF CHARGE.

SRM Spotlight ~ A New Walk With God

Kevin
This week’s SRM Spotlight is about a man who came to Springs Rescue Mission barely sober enough to function.  He had been through rehabilitation and AA, but was still lost in the world of alcoholism.
“My life had tanked and I knew I needed a change…so I got on the road drunk, intending to come back to Colorado,” he remembers sadly.  Kevin’s nightmare lasted 13 days…and he doesn’t remember any of it!  He got as far as Raton Pass, where a highway patrolman found him walking along the road. “I hope I never forget how bad I was…I was completely out of my mind.”
Kevin has since then turned his life around.  Participating in the Men’s New Life program at Springs Rescue Mission has changed his life.  The New Life program is an addiction recovery program in Colorado Springs where men fight through addictions and find God.
Kevin, we are so proud of you and know you will continue to be successful in your new walk with God.  To read the full story about this remarkable recovery, go to the March newsletter at www.mySRM.org

Springs Rescue Mission ~ Turning Hunger Into Hope

Foodfight

The benefits of non profit organizations in Colorado Springs are considerable; in reality it can be said they are crucial to the community. Non profit organizations are not there to gain profits for themselves. They are created in order to assist others, individuals or groups, in their own particular causes.  Springs Rescue Mission is one of those non profit organizations in Colorado Springs that is helping people in need in our community.

Certainly non profit organizations have directors, members and employees much like any other business, but they definitely do not bestow their assets on them in a private capacity. Naturally, non profit organizations don't have shareholders. On the plus side they are often exempt from many taxes in return for their part in helping create a better community.

Much against common knowledge these organizations actually play an important part in the overall economy. They in fact hold an equal third share of the overall economy with the private business sector and the public-government sector. Moreover, approximately one in ten employees in America are employed by non profit organizations, either on a full or part-time basis.

Non profit organizations in Colorado Springs operate in a variety of ways in many different incarnations in order to improve the general living standards of society. Comprising a significant majority of them are the most common of non profit organizations, which are charitable organizations. Poverty assistance is the focus of their attention and they attempt to achieve this through creating areas such as soup kitchens, shelters for the homeless and counseling centers.

Springs Rescue Mission offers all three of these assistance programs and more.  This Spring SRM is turning hunger into hope.  In order for SRM to continue to aid those in need it must have assistance from those in abundance.  Give to Springs Rescue Mission this Spring and help turn hunger into hope for those in our community who have found themselves in rough times.

SRM is a non profit organization in Colorado Springs that is making a difference.  To find out more visit our website at www.mySRM.org or call us at 719-632-1822.

Springs Rescue Mission's Spotlight ~ Nothing Goes To Waste

Bearhearts

Springs Rescue Mission doesn't operate a thrift store with the large amount of clothing, furniture and food we receive - we give it away for free to those in desperate need.  Your donations in Colorado Springs never go to waste.  When we have more than we can handle, we share it with other ministries who do the same.

That's how we met Gabrielle and Brad Bearsheart, a couple with a heart for Native American people.  Their ministry, Project Lighthouse, delivers food and clothing to God's children on the Colorado Springs and Denver area reservations.  When a donation of milk and yogurt was more than they could use, they shared their bounty with the Springs Rescue Mission.  A week later, SRM reciprocated by offering the Bearshearts a donated semi to replace their U-Haul trailer.

Gabrielle and Brad Bearsheart are the kind of people who are making a difference in our community and our world.  Springs Rescue Mission is proud to work with people like the Bearshearts to make our community stronger.  To read more about this amazing couple and their ministry click the following link.  (Donations in Colorado Springs)
