SRM Spotlight ~ A Giving Heart

Img00182

Springs Rescue Mission would like to recognize a special little girl, Annalise.  Annalisa has been making bookmarks in her spare time and selling them to raise financial donations for Springs Rescue Mission.  On Saturday she brought her beautiful bookmarks to the Summer Extravaganza and sold them to our staff and volunteers!  Annalise is a true example of God's love and compassion!  She is generous, kind and creative.  All of us at SRM want to thank Annalise for her donations and giving heart.

Donations in Colorado Springs

Springs Rescue Mission (SRM) will host its annual “Summer Extravaganza” for the less fortunate on Saturday, June 4, 2011. The event is from 9 am until 1 pm and will be held on the SRM campus located at 5 West Las Vegas Street.  Your donations in Colorado Springs are making a real difference.

With unemployment at its highest in decades, rising gas and food costs still causing an imbalance in many lives, already struggling poor and needy families in Colorado Springs need help. Springs Rescue Mission is planning to make a difference by providing free clothing and furniture to families and individuals who are in need of these items.

New, unused or gently used items can be donated to Springs Rescue Mission, 1 West Las Vegas Street, Monday–Friday, 9:30 am–4:00 pm and Saturday, 9:00 am–11:30 am. Donations will not be accepted on Saturday, June 4 since the parking area will be blocked for the Summer Extravaganza.

“Spring Rescue Mission offers families in need time together to enjoy free food, music and time away from their day-to-day pressures. In addition, there will be free clothing for men, women and children. A limited amount of furniture will also be available for those with a vehicle to transport the furniture. This is going to be a great day of fun!” says Karen Hughes, Outreach Coordinator.

He Will Lead Me......Where I Need To Be

2011_-_june_appeal_page_srm_photo
The story below is a story of how your donations Colorado Springs provide individuals and families with food, shelter and many other basic needs everyday at Springs Rescue Mission.

David, Jack and Robert were friends, living on the streets together.  During the coldest days of winter Jack and Robert finally decided to come to the Mission to get help.

David was the holdout.  He'd come in for meals, but because he didn't want to sit through a short chapel service before he ate, he'd usually grab a sack lunch and go back to living under the bridge.

There was a lot of freedom involved in that lifestyle, but sometimes, too much freedom is detrimental, or, as David says, "That kind of lifestyle is a rope, and sometimes you get enough to hang yourself."

For a while David "got into" crack cocaine.  He found and lost jobs, tried detox and ended up with a "$3 million roof" over his head, sleeping under the bridge.

"One night as I was laying there in my sleeping bag, I closed my eyes and prayed, 'Lord, I am sick and tired of living this way.' The next thing I know, I'm in the Mission dining hall wearing an ID badge."

Today, David is a graduate of the New Life Recovery Program!  He has chosen to lead a new life.  "I trust my Lord.  He will lead me step-by-step and get me where I need to be."

Through your donations Colorado Springs and your support of the Men's New Life Program, the lives of thousands of people have been changed forever.  David, Springs Rescue Mission supports you in your new life and we will be here to continue to take this journey with you.

If you are interested in supporting David and others like him visit our website at www.mySRM.org or call us at 719-632-1822.

Catering_head2

Did you know that Springs Rescue Mission has a catering service?  Well, it does!!  The Mens New Life Program's Culinary Arts team is providing box lunches for business meetings, social meetings, small groups and large groups.  The men of this program are not only learning the skills of cooking, but it also allows them to learn the responsibilities of having a job and being a part of a team.

In supporting the SRM Box Lunch Program you are contributing to solving the issues of homelessness, poverty, addiction and hunger by helping people successfully move towards a new life of self sufficiency and responsibility. You are giving men in recovery an opportunity to pursue a career in the Food Service Industry.
